Environmental Stewardship Scheme

The Environmental Stewardship Scheme is the Government's flagship conservation scheme. There are two tiers to the scheme - Entry Level (ELS) and Higher Level (HLS).

Entry Level Scheme (ELS)
ELS is a 5-year, points-based scheme open to all farmers and landowners. It provides 6-monthly payments in return for undertaking a range of simple conservation options. It is often possible to access the scheme without making changes to existing farming or land management practices.

H & H Bowe provides practical advice on which options will fit best with your business and give you enough points to enter the scheme. We can also complete all the paperwork and submit the application on your behalf.

Higher Level Scheme (HLS)
HLS is a 10-year scheme designed to deliver significant environmental benefits. The scheme is competitive and a strong application is essential to secure funding. H & H Bowe has an excellent track record in ensuring applications are accepted. Our service includes:

  • Preparing a Farm Environment Plan, which is a pre-requisite for making an HLS application
  • Recommending the best options to maximise your income, without compromising your business, while delivering significant environmental benefits
  • Completing and submitting the application paperwork
  • Negotiating the best deal for you with Natural England, the Government's conservation arm
  • For group applications, negotiating internal agreements that are acceptable to all interested parties
  • If you would like assistance on any of the above, please contact our Environmental Stewardship Scheme expert David Morley on 01228 40 62 60 or email him with your query and contact details for him to respond.
